ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Imran Khan's statement on the colonial mentality of foreign officers has angered foreign officials, not to mention a wave of demoralization among the officers While many officials expressed anger over the statement of Prime Minister Imran Khan, as well as intense resentment.

According to a report published in a national newspaper, reacting to the statement of Prime Minister Imran Khan, an official said that anger is very strong over this humiliating statement of the Prime Minister which has forced even those who remained silent to speak.

There is no denying that people living overseas face problems at embassies, but foreign officials told the national newspaper that the prime minister's own presentation on these issues showed a lack of understanding. And they relied solely on complaints rather than reviewing the issues first.

The present service officers could not openly respond due to professional discipline but the former foreign secretaries took the initiative to condemn the Prime Minister's remarks on social media.

Former Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua said in a Twitter message that she was deeply disappointed by the irresponsible criticism of the Foreign Ministry.

Another former foreign secretary, Salman Bashir, explained in a Twitter statement that general services provided to the community fall under the purview of other departments that handle passport, NICOP (National Identity Card for Overseas), and consular verification matters.

According to the report, officials stationed at the Foreign Office said that there were structural reasons behind these problems.

Yes blaming the Foreign Office is to cover up real structural issues. The Prime Minister himself said that most of the complaints were related to passports and identity cards which fall under the purview of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

It may be recalled that Prime Minister Imran Khan while addressing the officers posted in 19 countries through video link had said that he had witnessed the shocking indifference of Pakistani diplomats stationed overseas.

He also criticized diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Addressing the officers, the Prime Minister had said that the detached attitude was unforgivable and unacceptable, abandon the mentality of your colonial era and treat the migrants well.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had suspended Raja Ijaz, Pakistan's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, for not serving the Pakistani community properly and for incompetence, after which he had repatriated six diplomats, including him.
